Wedding Wednesday #10 | Alyssa & Corey
Corey was just supposed to be a weekend fling, a one night stand. We both fell head over heals for each other so quickly, he told me he loved me  only after a few hours into our first date. We were in a long-distance relationship for the first year together, and only saw each other a few times each month. He is in the Canadian Forces, so he would be sent into the field for weeks on end with no way to communicate with him. After we both become fed up with the distance, I left the comfort and security of my hometown to live with Corey.
He was sent on another training exercise for 3 weeks just after we moved in together. During this time, a tragedy struck his family. He was unable to leave the field, so I tried my best to support and help his family, who I have never met before, during this difficult time. When he heard about what I did he told me that he didn’t want to “live another day without being married to you.” A week later he would be coming home, and we would get married as soon as we could.
On May 27th 2012, we got married in front of our close family and friends. I didn’t care about the dress, reception, rings, or anything that normal brides usually care about, I just cared about our marriage and the commitment we made to each other.
We will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Monday. Unfortunately, he will be in the field for all of May and the first weeks of June, so we will not be able to celebrate it together. But, instead of being down and depressed on our anniversary, I will spread the love with my family and friends. When they say “Oh, it must be hard.” I say that it isn’t because no matter where he is or what day it is, I know that he loves me.
